How Milwaukee Got Its Baseball Team
In 1970, Milwaukee regained Major League Baseball just days before Opening Day when Bud Selig and his investors purchased the financially struggling Seattle Pilots for $10.8 million. Renamed the Milwaukee Brewers, the team had so little time to prepare that it reused Seattle’s uniforms, replacing the Pilots’ name and logo. On April 7, 1970, more than 36,000 fans packed County Stadium to welcome Major League Baseball back to Milwaukee after a four-year absence.
