The History of the Pabst Mansion

Built in 1892 for brewing magnate Captain Frederick Pabst, this Flemish Renaissance Revival mansion was one of the grandest homes in Gilded Age Milwaukee. After the Pabsts’ deaths, it served as the residence of Milwaukee’s archbishops for nearly seventy years. In the 1970s it narrowly escaped demolition for a parking lot, and preservationists saved it to become the museum it is today.
